C&C First Generation Scholarship

The unique thing about this scholarship is that anybody can contribute as much or as little as the wish. Often, people wishing to fund scholarships either give money to a general fund that could be used in any number of ways, or give a large enough amount to endow a scholarship on their own.

The C&C First Generation Scholarship allows people to contribute to a specific, targeted scholarship, while giving an amount that they are comfortable with.

Students who qualify for this scholarship must:

• Have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (in high school for incoming freshman, in their IU coursework for current students)
• Have financial need as indicated by being eligible for a federal Pell Grant
• Be a first generation college student, meaning neither parent has a 4-year college degree

The first scholarship of $500 was distributed in Fall 2006.

Due to continued contributions and the growth of the principle, the endowment was just over $20,000 at the end of June, 2018.
As a result, we have been able to increase the amount of the scholarship. For 2017-2018, the amount awarded was $1,200.

As of Spring 2019, we have awarded over $8000 in scholarships.

In ANY and ALL cases, ensure you designate your gift as for the benefit of the C&C First Generation Scholarship Fund (details on where to put this information is below). If you fail to do this your gift will not be credited properly.

This section details the ways in which you may donate to the scholarship.

You may give in a variety of ways.

1. By mail directly to the IU Foundation. You may use this method to make a gift by check, money order, credit card, or electronic funds transfer. This can be a one-time or recurring gift. Visit the following page where you down download the form:

   The "Mail-in Gift Form" form will ask you to desginate your gift. The "Electronic Funds Transfer" form will ask where you would like the gift to benefit. (Same question, different language.) Put C&C First Generation Scholarship in answer to those questions.

   Mail the appropriate form(s) and check/money order (if applicable) to the address located on the form.

If sending by a check/money order, make it payable to the IU Foundation and be sure to put "C&C First Generation Scholarship" in the memo section.
2. Online at:

   • The My IU Give Now page:
     • https://www.myiu.org/give-now - This will open in a new window/tab
     • Click/tap on "Make a Gift" or "Make a Recurring Gift"
     • Use the search box to find the scholarship. Just searching for the word "first" will bring up a few choices, including C&C, which you can then click/tap on
     • Click/tap on next
     • This will bring you to a page you fill out your information, just follow the instructions on the screen from there.

3. For IU employees, you may use payroll deduction. Please visit the following page:

   https://www.myiu.org/payment-options - This will open in a new window. You will need click/tap on the IU payroll gift deduction form. This will require you to log in after which just follow the instructions.

   Where the form asks you for a School/Department/Program, put C&C First Generation Scholarship. Leave the account number box blank.

I do not need to know how much you have given (or that you even gave), and will not reveal to anyone how much specific individuals have given (for those who have told me).

If you wish, you may also enclose a letter with your gift mentioning the C&C First Generation Scholarship.

I would also like to remind you that your employers may match your contribution.

As well, fell free to solicit contributions from members of your local alumni clubs and others. The more money in the account, the more scholarships we can give. And you Texans be sure to hit up Mark Cuban!!! :)
